5 Must-Have Ingredients for Aging Skin

If you’re looking to fight signs of aging on your skin, such as wrinkles or fine lines, you’re in luck! There are plenty of incredible natural ingredients with some serious anti-aging properties. From our favourite, hemp seed extract, to the incredibly hydrating hyaluronic acid, keep reading to discover five must-have ingredients for aging skin.

Hemp Seed Extract

We’ll start with our favourite ingredient at Dope Skin Co., hemp! Hemp seed extract is not only extremely moisturizing, it also has powerful anti-aging properties. The ingredient’s ability to reduce fine lines and wrinkles comes down to its high content of linoleic and oleic acids. These fatty acids can’t be produced by the body naturally, which is why it’s so important to look for skincare products that have ingredients which contain them. The acids in hemp seed extract work to energize and rejuvenate the skin, reversing any dullness or damage that has occurred due to aging.

Kakadu Plum Extract

We can’t get enough of kakadu plum extract. It is one of the most potent sources of vitamin C that comes from nature, which is why we recommend it for anyone looking to reduce signs of aging. With vitamin C, the first fruit that comes to mind is probably an orange. The reality is that kakadu plums contain 75 times as much vitamin C as oranges. Natural vitamin C, like that which comes from this superfruit, stimulates the growth of collagen in the body. This in turn leads to plump, supple skin, which reduces the appearance of pesky lines and wrinkles. It also works to improve skin elasticity, fight dullness, and even reduce dark undereye circles.

Hyaluronic Acid

If you’re into skincare at all, then you’ve probably heard of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid has been all the rage in the skincare world over the last few years - and for good reason. This killer ingredient is in fact an acid, but one that our bodies naturally produce. What sets it apart from other acids is that it binds to water and helps attract and retain moisture. (Fun fact: one molecule of hyaluronic acid can hold up to one thousand times its weight in water.) This is the reason that hyaluronic acid is such a powerful anti-aging skincare ingredient, it has super hydrating powers which become even more important as we age and our skin loses moisture. A daily dose of hyaluronic acid makes skin firm, tight, plump, and smooth.

Aloe Vera Juice

Another must-have ingredient for aging skin? Aloe vera juice. For those that don’t know, aloe vera is chock full of antioxidants (between the minerals, enzymes, and vitamins, aloe vera has over 75 different types of antioxidants). Due to these antioxidants, the presence of aloe vera juice in a skincare product means that it will be able to stimulate collagen production in the skin. This helps with wrinkle reduction and creating a smooth, hydrated complexion.

Rose Water

Sure, roses smell amazing, but did you know that they could play a role in reducing signs of aging? That’s right, rose water is our fifth and final must-have ingredient for aging skin. When applied topically, such as in the form of a toner or serum, rose water works to soothe and calm irritated or damaged skin owing to its anti-inflammatory properties. This makes it ideal for people with sensitive skin. In addition, rose water contains many antioxidants, as well as vitamins C and A, and is a natural astringent, all of which work to simultaneously tighten and brighten the skin.
